Mobil1 Oil - Corvette Racing Champions Award

The Mobil1 Corvette Racing Champions award is a 27 piece addition to the Mobile1 Oil Drop Award Series done annually. Each of the awards, as shown above, includes oil from the Mobil1 Corvette race car that raced at Rolex 24 Daytona, 24 Hours of Le Mans, Mobil1 Sportscar Grand Prix and the 6 Hours of Shanghai raceways encased in hand blown glass drops.

This is a unique award I had the pleasure to design utilizing many layers of customization. Mobil1 has always been an enjoyable client as they have a lot of information that needs included in a small foot print. The goal was to make the piece not only look good from all angles but also to make it a conversational piece to promote the Mobil1 Corvette racing team.

The top has a hand sculpted 2018 Corvette C7.R based off of my original renderings for the car in motion. Accents such as: head lights, emblems, side vents and Mobil1 logos are sand etched into the surface. There is also an oil drop located in the engine bay of the car and the Corvette Racing Champions logo embedded inside the driver’s side door.

The top of the base is laser etched with a finish line and screen printed with the raceway logos. The center has individual oil drops made from oil from corvettes used at the corresponding raceways. The bottom has each raceway screen printed in white and sandwiched between a black and clear layer of cast lucite for contrast. Followed by a limited edition badge on the back.

International Motor Sports Association Award

IMSA-Photo.png

Continental Tire and IMSA came together to create a dedication and contribution award. The two requirements were that it include the IMSA/ International Motor Sports Association logo and Continental Tire shreds, also known as marbles, collected from the racetrack.

The exact definition of rubber marbles is: small bits of rubber that come off tires and accumulate near the outside wall of a racetrack. Drivers call them marbles because that's precisely what they feel like as they drive over them. Learned something new didn’t you?

Many tests failed trying to find a way to compress, form, or embed rubber into a shape that could be used for the award. In the end my favorite clear embedment material, acrylic lucite, worked best. The only side effect was a red hue formed around the rubber bits, however this played into our favor as red is one of IMSA’s logo colors!

The top is laser cut black, red and white acrylic sheets that sandwich the marble lucite embedded layer. The IMSA arrow is cut out of white acrylic to create a window to view the marbles. The base is black resin with a brushed aluminum name plate.

Edward Jones Million Dollar Awards

Awards-Line-Up.jpg

Edward Jones has been one of the most elegant corporations I’ve had the pleasure to design for. The image above shows the new additions of the 4, 5, 6, and 7 million dollar awards to the Edward Jones Million Dollar Award series. The custom leaded optic crystal spires range from 6-15” in height and site atop a custom black crystal base. The name plates is brushed aluminum with laser black text.

The award his highly reflective and the refraction on the spires allows for the award to change depending on the lighting or surrounding environment. This subtle feature makes it feel like a one-off custom award for each winner, although it is part of an annually repeating award series.
