6 x 8’ tile mural

Updated-Art-Overview-A-01.png

The above 6x8’ image was spliced from 6 different hi-res photographs, supplied by client, from an original tile mural at Anheuser Busch. The supplied art had irregular spliced tiles, wear & tear from original tile mural and photography distortion.

To avoid printing irregular tile grout lines in addition to new grout lines from new tiles, all grout lines were removed. During process, photography distortion and original tile blemishes were removed to prepare for new print process.

Tile Production

The photos to the right, walk you through the production phase.

Tiles were first laid out row by row to confirm all art was produced correctly and there weren’t any chips or other errors before we began the process of attaching them to the backer. The backer consisted of 3/4” MDF board and concrete board. With the 187 porcelain tiles, tile glue, and backer the mural weighed 997 lbs once it was fully assembled, thus it was built in two pieces to help with install. Wooden dowels were used to assist with proper alignment during installation, which was a life saver!
